Living Large in a Small Space: Exploring the Tiny Home Stay Experience

Earlier this winter, we rented this Airbnb called Cricket by the Creek in Menlo, Georgia, with Brandon’s mom, and we wanted to share our experience with you!

This tiny home had all the goods! The main bedroom was in the back of the house, and right outside the door was the bathroom and shower. Across from the bathroom was a bunk bed that led down a tiny hallway (I don’t know if you can actually call it a hallway) was the kitchen and laundry closet, which led directly to the living room.

I love how open this home was! It made the place seem large and welcoming.

From the living room, a step staircase led to another queen bed in a loft area. This was the cutest little loft ever!! It had adorable little nightstands and bookshelves to make it seem like an actual bedroom, but you could not stand up in the loft.

All the appliances were updated, and the place was super clean.

We arrived late Friday night, so we sat around the cute little living room, enjoying each other’s company and exploring the tiny home.

That night it rained so hard, and it was so peaceful hearing the rain on the tin roof.

Then we had a slow morning the next day and adventured around the outside with our coffee, enjoying ourselves on the attached porch/deck, and then followed a little trail down to the babbling creek, where we enjoyed our second cup of coffee!

It was so peaceful and serene in and around the tiny home.

This tiny home was part of a tiny home community, so we went to see what other amenities it offered! It had a gym (where we did not work out) with all the equipment needed for a tiny gym with machines, free weights, weight machines, exercise balls, and more!

The community also had an outdoor pool! Unfortunately, we were there too early in the season to enjoy it, but it was a lovely area with lots of seating, fire pits, and tables.

The community also connects to a river that you can kayak on! The river is technically in Alabama, which is fun! You can be in two states at once!

After we explored the tiny home community, we ventured to Desoto Falls State Park in Alabama. The park was about a 20-minute drive from the Cricket by the Creek and a perfect spot to come and visit!

If you want an effortless way to see the falls and not do any hiking, head to the Desoto Falls Picnic Area. There is limited parking, so make sure you get there early in the summertime! This picnic area places you at the top of the falls near the dam.

You can stretch your legs and head down the little stone staircase to get a better view of the waterfall, but there are no hiking trails from this location. It was a perfect spot to come and relax, enjoying the sights and sounds of the falls.

Then we drove into the state park to find the Talmadge Butler Boardwalk Trailhead. This is a great trail if you are looking for a charming and leisurely stroll. It is about 230 yards long and a short hike, but it ends right over a creek.

As we were leaving the boardwalk, across the street was Indian Falls, a smaller waterfall that was very accessible. It was easy to climb around the waterfall and see it from so many different angles, even from behind!

We then took a trail that followed along the West Fork Little River. This was a great trail to see the river and other parts of the park.

After exploring the park, we returned to our tiny home to get cleaned up for dinner. Since we were only an hour away from Chattanooga and Brandon’s mom had never been, we decided why not go!!

We drove into Chattanooga at the perfect time, right before sunset. We parked near the Hunter Museum of American Art and walked across the iconic Walnut Street Bridge. We were hunting for coffee, but sadly we could not find any.

We wandered around the area until our dinner reservations at Giardino. Then, we returned to our cozy tiny home, enjoying more time together in the living room with great company.

Then we made some delicious breakfast sandwiches the next day and enjoyed our coffee in the comfy home. We were so sad to leave our tiny house.

Cricket by the Creek was in such a perfect location, and it felt like we were dropped off right in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful nature and right next to some fantastic state parks. It was the perfect place to unwind and step away from our lives for a little bit.

We would recommend this tiny home to anyone!
