Morning – 1 Day Brussels Itinerary
8:30 – 9:30 Grand Place (Grote Markt)
First, head to the most picturesque square in all of Europe before all the crowds arrive!
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is filled with amazing architecture.
The square is filled with different guild houses and beautifully decorated buildings that once served as the headquarters for the city’s powerful trade and craft guilds during the 17th century.
The building has been rebuilt but retains the same intricate facade and detail. This is a great way to start your one-day Brussels itinerary.

9:30 – 10:00 Breakfast/waffles
Next, you’ll grab a waffle to start your day. Many of the waffle shops don’t open till around 9:00/9:30 am.
There are two main types of waffles in the city: Brussels Waffles and Lieges Waffles. Brussels waffles are typically less sweet and perfectly square, while Lieges waffles are more sweet, less perfectly shaped, and aren’t served with toppings.
You really can’t go wrong with any of the waffle places that you choose, but here are some top contenders: Belgaufre, Maison Dandoy, or Le Roi de la Gaufre.
10:00 – 10:15 Find Manneken Pis (Europe’s Biggest Tourist Trap)
This quirky must-see statue should be on your one-day Brussels itinerary. This small bronze statue of a peeing boy, dating back to the 17th century, symbolizes the city’s humor, resilience, and rebellious spirit.
Despite its tiny size (just 61 cm tall), it attracts countless visitors who come to see its ever-changing outfits—over 1,000 costumes gifted from around the world. Located near Grand Place, it’s a fun, lighthearted stop on any Brussels itinerary and an excellent spot for a unique photo!

10:15 – 11:15 Choco-Story Brussels (Belgium Chocolate Stop 😋)
You can’t go to Belgium and not learn about Belgium Chocolate, right?
Choco-Story interactive museum takes you on a journey through the history of chocolate, from ancient Mayan cacao use to modern Belgian pralines.
You can also watch live chocolate-making demonstrations, sample delicious Belgian chocolates, and learn what makes Belgian chocolate so special.
You’ll have to be mindful of your time here, and there is an entrance fee. If you want something free, instead, stop at Neuhaus, Pierre Marcolini, or Leonidas for treats!
Or, if you want to take a deep dive check out this guided tour.
Lunch – 1 Day Brussels Itinerary
11:15 – 12:00 Have the Best Sandwich of your life at Tonton Garby
This tiny little place serves one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, but you will have to wait in line. The owner likes to take his time, talk with each customer, and share his passion for cheese. You’ll see him run upstairs to bring down the fresh loaves of bread.
He has a menu, but from what I experienced, you don’t need one. He will ask you what cheeses you like or what you are looking for, and he will custom-make every sandwich. He will only let you go once you have tried a bite of the sandwich. “One bite for pleasure,” he would say, and “If you don’t like it, I will make you another.”
It is truly an incredible experience all around and a must-stop on your one-day trip to Brussels.

Afternoon – 1 Day Brussels Itinerary
12:00 – 1:30 Royal Palace of Brussels and Palais du Coudenberg
This stunning neoclassical building serves as the official palace of the Belgian monarchy (though the king resides elsewhere). Its grand architecture, lavish interiors, and historical significance will draw you.
The palace opens to the public each summer for free, allowing guests to explore its ornate halls, chandeliers, and famous Mirror Room with its shimmering beetle-wing ceiling. Even when closed, the palace is worth a visit for its impressive façade.
You will also get a great view of Parc de Bruxelles, the largest urban park in central Brussels. This is a great place to walk around, see the statues and fountains, and take pictures.
Right next to the Royal Palace is also the Palais du Coudenberg, an underground archaeological site beneath the Royal Palace of Brussels. It showcases the ruins of a former medieval palace that once housed Burgundy, Habsburg, and Spanish rulers.
You can explore underground tunnels, grand halls, and ancient foundations, offering a glimpse into Brussels’ royal past.
There is an additional fee to enter.
Afternoon Option 1
1:30 – 5:00 Atomium and/or Mini-Europe
Explore outside the city center by taking a 20-minute trip to Brussels’ futurist icon, the Atomium.
Built for the 1958 World Expo, this futuristic 102-meter-tall structure represents an iron atom magnified 165 billion times, symbolizing scientific progress. Its interconnected spheres house exhibitions on science, design, and the history of the Expo. The top sphere features a panoramic observation deck, offering breathtaking views of Brussels.
You will have to purchase tickets to enter the Atomium, which will give you access to the permanent exhibition, the temporary exhibition, the panorama, and the Design Museum Brussels.
Right next door to the Atomium is Mini-Europe. It features highly detailed, scaled-down replicas of famous landmarks from over 80 European cities, including the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Berlin Wall, and Venice’s canals.
You can “travel” across Europe in just a few hours, enjoying interactive exhibits, moving models, and special effects like erupting Mount Vesuvius. It’s an excellent stop for families, history lovers, and anyone looking for a unique and playful way to experience Europe’s most famous sights in one place!
You can purchase tickets for both Mini-Europe and Atomium here!
Mini-Europe does have an annual closure. Check dates here!
Afternoon Option 2
1:30 – 5:00 Comic Strip Trail, Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert, and other iconic spots!
If you want to stay close to the city center, there is still plenty to see and do!
One recommendation we have is the Comic Strip Trail. This unique outdoor street art tour features over 60 giant murals dedicated to Belgium’s famous comic book characters. As the birthplace of Tintin, The Smurfs, and Lucky Luke, Brussels celebrates its comic heritage with colorful artworks painted on building walls across the city.

You can walk or bike the trail, discovering beloved characters while exploring different neighborhoods. It’s a great way to experience Brussels’ creative side while sightseeing. Maps are available at the Brussels Tourist Office, and guided tours offer deeper insights into the city’s comic book culture!
And here you can find a digital map 🙂
You can also visit many famous buildings, such as St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral, Congress Column, and Church of Our Lady of Victories at the Sablon.
Take this time to visit the Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert, a stunning 19th-century glass-roofed shopping arcade in the heart of Brussels, steps from Grand Place.

Opened in 1847, it was one of Europe’s first covered shopping galleries and remains a hub for luxury shopping, fine dining, and culture.
You can stroll through its elegant halls, lined with high-end boutiques, chocolatiers (like Neuhaus and Pierre Marcolini), cafés, and theaters. The beautiful architecture, lively atmosphere, and delicious Belgian chocolates make it a must-visit spot for shopping, photography, or simply soaking in the city’s charm!
End of 1 day Brussels Itinerary
5:00 – 6:00 Dinner at a Local Brasserie
These casual yet traditional restaurants serve classic Belgian dishes alongside a great selection of local beers. The word brasserie originally means “brewery,” and many of these establishments have a strong beer culture, often featuring regional brews on tap.
Brasseries typically offer a warm, relaxed atmosphere and serve dishes like moules-frites (mussels & fries), carbonnade flamande (Flemish beef stew), and vol-au-vent. They’re perfect for experiencing authentic Belgian cuisine without the formality of fine dining.
Here are a few recommendations: Nüetnigenough, Les Brassins, PLOEGMANS, Fin de Siècle
6:00 – 7:00 Beer Tasting at Delirium Café and Frites
Let’s end the day by trying some beer and eating frites.
Delirium Café is one of the most famous beer bars in Brussels. It is known for its record-breaking selection of over 2,000 beers from Belgium and around the world. Located just a short walk from Grand Place, this lively bar has become a must-visit spot for beer lovers looking to experience Belgium’s legendary brewing culture.
It offers a wide variety of beers, from classic Belgian Trappist ales and lambics to rare craft brews and international selections. The bar is also recognized in the Guinness World Records for offering the most beers available in one place. Whether you’re a casual drinker or a true beer connoisseur, there’s something for everyone.

Lastly, grab some Frites. In Belgium, frites (fries) are a cherished national dish and are typically enjoyed in a specific way. They are double-fried to achieve the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The fries are often served in a paper cone, accompanied by a wooden spatula for dipping. The most traditional condiment is mayonnaise, though other popular sauces include frites sauce, andalouse, or even stoofvlees (a Flemish beef stew) served on top.
That’s a wrap on the ultimate 1 Day Brussels Itinerary!
